Il ritorno all’attività ordinaria della nostra webzine dopo le vacanze sarà segnato, nelle prossime settimane, da una serie di sorprese e spunti molto interessanti, quali interviste esclusive, diversi RECORDINGS e report-video, e streaming in anteprima. A quest’ultima categoria appartiene, in particolare, l’articolo di oggi: siamo onorati di presentare il debutto discografico del producer Veronese Bellatrix? attraverso un commento alle due tracce del disco, accompagnato all’ascolto integrale della cassetta. L’esordio corrisponde anche al lancio della tape-label ANIME SOLITARIE, creatura di Bellatrix?, di cui appunto Cassette 001 rappresenta la prima uscita.
Bellatrix? parteciperà all’edizione 2016 del Path Festival a Verona, in scena tra pochissimi giorni, nella serata di Sabato 3 Settembre. Per l’occasione, aprirà il palco della sezione clubbing dell’Interzona a due artisti del calibro di Legowelt [Strange Life Records, Crème Organization, L.I.E.S.] e dell’amico Violet Poison, sulla cui label-culto Veleno Viola pubblicherà nei prossimi mesi un EP 12”. ANIME SOLITARIE è l’etichetta / organo attraverso il quale Bellatrix? rilascerà, nel prossimo futuro, i lavori selezionati di amici e stimati artisti (oltre che fungere, chiaramente, da principale piattaforma per le proprie produzioni). Stampati in tirature molto limitate, le uscite saranno dei prodotti intriganti da possedere nella propria collezione, ed il merito di ciò è da attribuire sicuramente al concept grafico, curato dall’artista stesso. Le artwork, incluse in questo articolo in esclusiva, rimandano ad una componente strettamente intima, vicina all’atmosfera evocata dalla visione di scatti rubati e rinvenuti lievemente impolverati sullo scaffale.
La prima delle due tracce registrare sulla tape, intitolata Mescolarsi, occupa i primi 4 minuti e 20 secondi. Un beat marcato scandisce i rintocchi dilatati che caratterizzano il pezzo, e che si evolvono in compagnia di un synth distorto e screpolato, quasi chitarristico, fino all’entrata della 808 e delle linee vocali in echo. L’effetto in ascolto è quello di un panzer avanzante di chiaro rimando ad atmosfere wave – 80s. Di quest’ultime viene recuperata anche la dimensione romantica e sensuale, considerazione che avvicina in maniera perfettamente combaciante l’estetica di Bellatrix? all’esaltazione del Viola inteso come femminilità e sessualità velenosa, tanto cara alla label Veleno Viola che lo ospiterà per la prossima release. Gli acidi ed allarmanti arpeggi che aprono Anime Solitarie prolungano l’effetto fino all’incirca al secondo minuto, per poi lasciare spazio ad un’enigmatica divagazione onirico / orrorifica che resta in sospensione, anticipando una beffarda accelerazione del beat con la quale si intreccia per la restante durata, fino al fade-out conclusivo.
Bellatrix? sarà nuovamente nostro ospite nell’immediato futuro, restate in attesa! Nel frattempo, l’invito è rivolto alla riproduzione in loop continuo della cassetta. Chiudiamo la nostra breve feature ricordando ancora una volta l’incombente appuntamento con il Path Festival a Verona: appuntamento che francamente riteniamo imperdibile, considerata sia la line-up [consultabile qui] che l’apertura di spazi inediti affiancati al tradizionale baluardo cittadino della youth-culture rappresentato dall’Interzona. Here we are, finally back to the full-time activity after a short vacation break. A lot of surprises are coming soon on our pages, such as rich interviews, several video-reports and RECORDINGS, together with exclusive previews. This article belongs to the last mentioned category: we’re deeply honoured to present the debut on record by the young producer Bellatrix?, from Verona, Italy, along with full streaming of the release. ANIME SOLITARIE Cassette 001 is also the launch work for the eponymous Bellatrix?’s own label, ANIME SOLITARIE [Italian for ‘Lonely Souls’].
The artist will perform at 2016 Path Festival in Verona, Italy, taking place this very weekend [Saturday 3rd September]. Bellatrix? will be opening the Interzona stage for great artists such as Legowelt [Strange Life Records, Crème Organization, L.I.E.S.] and the friend Violet Poison, running the cult-label Veleno Viola that is about to release a Bellatrix? 12” EP in the next months. ANIME SOLITARIE is the outcome Bellatrix? is going to exploit as the main platform for releasing friends and close artists’ works, together with his very own tracks. The products will be available in very limited editions, and they’ll be enriched by Bellatrix?’s artworks. They play a key role in defining the overall vibe for listening: in this particular occasion, they summon something very close to the melancholy experience of finding forgotten – and slightly dusty – photographies on the shelf.
The first of the two tracks, called Mescolarsi, absorbs the first 4 minutes and a half. A heavy beat marks the dilated phrases revolving aroud distorted and cracked – almost guitar-like – synths. Echoing vocals and a 808 Machine are the last features that makes Mescolarsi an armored panzer proceeding on the fields and destroying eveything on its path. The 80s – wave aesthetic is recalled by Bellatrix? together with its romantic and sensual connotation: this causes him to be a perfect match for releasing stuff on the Veleno Viola label, whose founder Violet Poison has always been committed to sensuality and poisounous love. Acid, alarming arpeggios open up the second track’s first moments, to be replaced by an enigmatic and oneiric divagation which would perfectly fit within a horror movie soundtrack. The ending of Anime Solitarie is occupied by the scornful acceleration of the beat, until the final fade-out. Bellatrix? will be soon our guest, so please stay tuned! In the meantime, we recommend you to play in a close-loop the tracks, again and again.
