WORLDISORDER: An Insight into the Italian Tape-Label From Vittorio Veneto, TV

worldisorder_logo

Riportando la tag-line presa dal portale bandcamp, Worldisorder “deals with different kinds of sounds, pushing weird and freak music, friends and anyone who is involved“.

Meanlover – Self-Titled [WD001, Settembre 2015]

Chrome tape. Comes with “Meanlover” patch inside. Italian punk band, rough sound, sexy behavior. Recorded in May 2015

Golden Teeth – Early Grime [WD002, Febbraio 2016]

Chrome tape. Stunning debut on Worldisorder. Revolving acid bass lines on groovy dry beats from our handsome young freak. Recorded in January 2016.

Human Disguise – First Coming [WD003, Maggio 2016]

Chrome tape. Establishing contact on the ground, leaving the heavens to walk between pulsing bodies. Recorded in January 2016.

Consigliatissima!

RM – Electronic Execution vol.III [WD004, Maggio 2016]

Chrome tape. Third and last chapter of the Electronic Execution series. Concieved as a selection of jams of free form and linear electonic ideas, Electronic Execution pretends to dissolve (to execute) the prosaic world of images in invisible and ancestral soundscapes. Recorded in January 2016.

[RM @Ombre Lunghe, Bologna, via]

Today we’d like to talk about the Italian tape-label Worldisorder we’ve been following closely in the last few months. Worldisorder develops a interesting concept which is unrelated to any hermetic separation of music genres or pre-estabilished patterns. On the contrary, the four releases on the label (so far) feature diametrically opposed music styles, yet joined by a diy policy and a punk-hardcore easthetics absorbing also elements out of the European post-industrial tape network culture. Quoting the label’s bandcamp tag, Worldisorder “deals with different kinds of sounds, pushing weird and freak music, friends and anyone who is involved“. WD was born in 2015 in Vittorio Veneto (TV), Italy by the minds and efforts of Federico and Riccardo Mazza [Lettera22, A Flower Kollapsed, Orfanado, Lago Morto], who are also active members of WD’s roster with the Meanlover band involving both of them, respectively at the vocals and at the guitar, and RM, one of Mazza’s projects.

In this article, following a short presentation of the label, we will present the four tapes that came out starting from September 2015 through a concise comment aiming to arise interest and hopefully the will to buy one of the tapes. Here is WD’s soundcloud account, on which are uploaded excerpts of the forthcoming releases. For further informations check tumblr and facebook.

As mentioned before, four are the tapes in WD’s catalogue, each featuring four different artists or groups. Among them, the Meanlover band – also the first one releasing on WD – has surely been the one playing the highest amount of live gigs, reaching venues throughout the country and cities such as Milan, Trieste, Bologna, Venice, Padua, Rome. The garage / “rough-punk” outcome sees the label’s owners at the vocals – Federico – and at the guitar – Riccardo -, and their self-titled release marked one of the most interesting Italian hardcore punk records out in 2015. Worldisorder also leads a remarkable activity organizing live music events, like the one that happened on June 17th, 2016 @ Spazio Mavv; the line-up featured Exoteric Continent [Opal Tapes, Hospital Productions, Second Sleep], Article Collection [Anòmia, Private Archive], Compile [Private Archive], and 51717 [Opal Tapes, Jealous God].

The aspect that intrigued us the most about WD is related to the high flexibility that lead the label to release tapes spanning disjointed (at least theoretically) genres and styles. WD starts from the Meanlover’s garage – hardcore punk and the acid basslines produced by Golden Teeth, reaching the ritual spoken-word passages by Human Disguise and ultimatelly RM’s austere electronic music, with no percieved inconsistencies within its own plans and policy. We’d like to give credit to the label for this peculiarity, since it will hopefully allow to reach a public which is potentially more open-minded and less compartmentalised. At the same time, hopping from one style to the other gives the opportunity – given the high-quality of the music, which is the case – to fit in the music-genres erosion process typical of the post-Internet community. Worldisorder is therefore a 100% modern label.

Here below are listed the four WD releases together with a brief comment. Our recommendation is to closely follow the label’s work. Among its future plans is, for example, the release of a Raskol’nikov tape – as we had been mentioning few days ago in our in-depth article about the experimental / post-industrial / performative duo. Enjoy!

Meanlover – Self-Titled [WD001, Settembre 2015]

Chrome tape. Comes with “Meanlover” patch inside. Italian punk band, rough sound, sexy behavior. Recorded in May 2015.

Meanlover are Federico, Riccardo, Andrea – former A Flower Kollapsed, at the bass guitar – and Cris – former Lucertolas, at the drums. They play obsessive, coarse garage-punk tracks, in which multiple influences come together accompanied by a strong erotic connotation. The heavy bass, the dark-toned singing and well-timed guitar breaks and outings are the starring elements of the music. Meanlover self-titled record offers a 25-minutes-long collection of Sick Vibes, place for shocking references to the Italian eroes Nerorgasmo, Raw Power and even Christian Death and Misfists. The tape’s artwork and the package – curated by Federico, such as all the other releases’ – depicts a pocket knife, an object that rises as the supreme representation of violent and spectacular death as it has been in the 70s Italian Giallo, today a deeply influential movie genre and cultural expression in general.

Golden Teeth – Early Grime [WD002, Febbraio 2016]

Chrome tape. Stunning debut on Worldisorder. Revolving acid bass lines on groovy dry beats from our handsome young freak. Recorded in January 2016.

The second WD’s release is a total debut on record. The tape is by Golden Teeth, a young Italian electronic music producer. Early Grime gathers both re-worked tracks out of the first Golden Teeth’s live performance ever – December 2015, done with synths and a sampler – and cutted jams recorded during reharsal. The five tracks offer minimal, throbbing basslines organized in nothing but few sound layers, that let the music play as fresh and straight-to-the-point that it needs to. The frequent vocal samples coming from an interview to John Balance stand as the only overdubbing features. WD002 is a captivating piece of dance tunes far from the abused, average ‘noise-industrial-techno’ style that is too much often linked with punk hardcore – related electronic music.

Human Disguise – First Coming [WD003, Maggio 2016]

Chrome tape. Establishing contact on the ground, leaving the heavens to walk between pulsing bodies. Recorded in January 2016.

WD003 is called First Coming and clearly refers to religious themes, well-assisted by the graphic concept developed around the human disguise topic. The tape is divided in four chapters [Over the clouds, Descending, Skin Contact e Outro] and tells the tale of a conscious descent into the eternal damnation of pulsing bodies. What the tracks offer is an abstrack take on rhythmic noise buried in creaking sounds, concrète noises, whiffling synth carpets and foreign feedbacks, on which tragic spoken word passages stand out. The experience for the unaware listener could be compared to a half-an-hour-long Paradise Lost lecture conducted by Nick Cave – rather than William Bennett – laid down on a dramatic background of heavy analogic mantras. Much recommended!

Electronic Execution vol.III is the fourth release on WD, collecting the last fragment of electronic experimentations done by Riccardo Mazza. The second one [vol.II] appeared on Private Archive last April 2015, while the first Volume is still unreleased – but it will see the light on Matteo Castro’s second sleep the next autumn [Matteo is the other Lettera22’s half; they reached USA for a three-date tour right about few days ago]. WD004 takes about 20 minutes to offer complex, yet touching compositions. The inspiration came  from the latest records on Downwards altogether with classical Detroit-techno vibes – starring even more in RM’s Electronic Execution vol.II. The techno influences join with noises, sound disturbances and a sort of schizophrenic sense of humour displaying throughout the release and expecially in the danceable and basically festive closure track Moonless.

Electronic Execution vol.III’s ending track could be considered as a perfect example for Worldisorder’s aesthetic and policy: WD holds no interest in walking easily predictable paths. Quoting Federico’s words he’d been telling us when we asked him about the label’s name / wordplay, they aim to gather “neat people messing things up together with messy people tidying things up“.
