Stay tuned.

The Threats series on our Mixcloud channel paynomindtous goes on with the appearence of Future Roots. The guy is an Italian producer of Jungle / Deep Drum’n Bass, born in 1992, who has been active since 2010 on Italian labels such as Delta9, Modulate and Subculture Music, from UK (AutomAte, Flexout and Skutta) and Basserk from Netherlands. Travelling Landscapes is the title/topic of the 1-hour-long mix (THREAT #4::), a travel between many different landscapes and dimensions. Deeply influenced by 90s dnb productions, the podcast starts following some ambient-music codified patterns, tasting the ground for the final opening towards an ecological intelligent Jungle – passing through certain ambient-techno sounds out of Warp‘s catalogue. The 60 minutes spanned by the mix offer us a guided tour on Earth, willing to explore the far corners of the planet we’re coming from.

The travel starts with the arid, arctic habitat introduced in Biosphere, together with the void introduced by the track by Steve Roach, slowly guiding us down the center of the Earth. At this point, A Produce features the sound of molten, boiling rocks, whose heat pushes us through the inner layers. Here, a wall of synths awaits – an Autechre track – telling us of the armony and the majesty of the Oceans, once joint in a whole called Panthalassa, in which Pangea stood. Its image emerges thanks to Super Continents by Future Sound of London.

Once back again on solid earth, a ceaseless search for the most pristine spot of the planet takes place. The investigation is deeply focused on the breakbeat, allowing us to freely wander through the territories explored many years ago by LTJ Bukem with his Intelligent Jungle label called Good Looking – that always cared for offering to the open-minded listener strong emotions and imaginative, free spaces.  Also Metalheadz gives its contribution (with the track Psychosis by Peshay) to a path abruptly wearing with Photek. The beat-centered twist removes the feeling of harmony with nature, depriving it of its colour tone. Only the shape defined by the bass and the drums survives, in a 2-D sudden expansion. The third dimension is guaranteed by the clash of the hammer on the Warp anvil. Aphex Twin and Squarepusher act quibbled operations of  assemblage / de-assemblage of the rhythm just as as crazy scientists, no sense of direction is left to us. Sad and abandoned, slamming our head on the axis of the space, we’re able to catch a distant whisper coming from the voices of Brian Eno and Karl Hyde, start singing Daddy’s Car.

Threats will back once again this month, precisely on the 24th, 11:59 PM. Spend the Holy Christmas with us. Stay tuned.

PAYNOMINDTOUS is a non-profit organization registered in December 2018, operating since late 2015 as a webzine and media website. In early 2017, we started our own event series in Turin, IT focused on arts, experimental, and dancefloor-oriented music. We reject every clumsy invocation to “the Future” meant as the signifier for capitalistic “progress” and “innovation”, fully embracing the Present instead; we renounce any reckless and ultimately arbitrary division between “high” and “low”, respectable and not respectable, “mind” and “body”; we support and invite musicians, artists, and performers having diverse backgrounds and expressing themselves via variegated artistic practices.
