  • K-Rob DJSET

“His sound doesn’t refuse the darkness, it doesn’t run from shadows, it doesn’t hide in peacefulness: he observes, breaths, vibrates and echoes the sounds of the earth”.

When bass wafted from the speaker cabinets, the air became thicker, heavier. Abrupt silences seemed to produce a vacuum effect. Most on the dancefloor just swayed with the shifts in pressure and vibration [..]. The space was almost totally dark, leaving thoughts to focus on sound and sensation. Different tones drew different responses from various parts of my body [..], but the pressure in my chest was almost incessant [..]. Throughout the event, my nostrils fluttered and my vision blurred. I was buoyed, pulled, pummelled. Sped up, slowed down. Too much to grasp at once: just go with the flow [..]. Afterwards, myself and others in our party reported feeling as though we’d been part of a singuIar vibrating mass, all of us modulated by the same energy cycles, each grappling with the paradox of being made intensely aware of one‘s own body at the same time as it seemed to be dissolving into sound. Leaving the club someone handed me a flyer that read: Come meditate on bass weight” _ Low End Theory: Bass, Bodies and the Materiality of Sonic Experience, by Paul C. Jasen

PAYNOMINDTOUS is a non-profit organization registered in December 2018, operating since late 2015 as a webzine and media website. In early 2017, we started our own event series in Turin, IT focused on arts, experimental, and dancefloor-oriented music. We reject every clumsy invocation to “the Future” meant as the signifier for capitalistic “progress” and “innovation”, fully embracing the Present instead; we renounce any reckless and ultimately arbitrary division between “high” and “low”, respectable and not respectable, “mind” and “body”; we support and invite musicians, artists, and performers having diverse backgrounds and expressing themselves via variegated artistic practices.
