Proseguiamo la nostra serie Guest Mixes con il secondo episodio, firmato da Emanuele Onorato, producer classe 1995 da Cassino, Frosinone, con all’attivo due release in questo 2016 (per Concrete Records e Blackwater Label), che si aggiungono all’apparizione della traccia Oscuro sulla compilation I Want to Believe EP di Affekt in seguito alla vittoria del contest aperto da Parkett.

Oscuro è la traccia con cui Emanuele Onorato è comparso lo scorso Dicembre sulla digital-release I Want to Believe EP di Affekt Recordings, assieme agli altri tre vincitori del contest di Parkett Giacomo Ciaccia, Codeless e Mirko Grasso. Nonostante poco si possa comprendere dell’attitudine, dello stile e del talento di un producer da una singola traccia, è possibile ad ogni modo notare sin da subito una scelta corraggiosa, ovvero quella di presentarsi con una pezzo dark-techno di quasi nove minuti di lunghezza. Operazione difficoltosa in partenza, e globalmente riuscita in modo efficace.
Di lì a poco – ovvero il 27/12/2015 – ha visto la luce un’intera digital release di tre tracce, sulla romana Concrete Records. Dal titolo Connessione, il disco si sviluppa su dinamiche sommesse e toni contenuti, riprendendo la composizione di Oscuro (specialmente in Connessione A1, la prima traccia) ed ampliandola. Il secondo pezzo, ad esempio, rappresenta un piccolo, prezioso sketch fragoroso e rimbombante, con un’interessante fase di break ritmico nel mezzo ed un frinito costante di sottofondo. Al di là di un paio di spunti solo accennati e che invece avrebbero potuto essere espansi ulteriormente, l’EP è di grande qualità e si inserisce perfettamente nel catalogo di Concrete, senza che si noti nessun ampio gap di esperienza nella produzione rispetto alle altre uscite.
Ashtray è uscito invece lo scorso 28 Marzo su Blackwater Label, etichetta con base a Londa ma del tutto Italiana. L’EP è composto da tre tracce Original Mix, che sono Ashtray, Dust e Stub, ed una quarta track versione remix di Ashtray firmata da Devianza (aka F.elipe, aka Pier di Sorte, il boss della label), accompagnata anche da un videoclip. [Cogliamo l’occasione anche per raccomandare vivamente Blackwater Label e della sublabel Kapvt Mvndi, capitanate dal precedentemente menzionato Pier di Sorte, e che hanno già visto la partecipazione di Fabrizio Lapiana, Subion, Ossa di Mare, Luciano Lamanna e molti altri]. La release alza decisamente il tiro rispetto a Connessione: ad esempio, i due validissimi pezzi centrali Dust e Stub sono caratterizzati da pattern ritmici pesanti, e, rispettivamente, da un motivo esplosivo ed un loop acido / accattivante ripetuti ossessivamente. Scelte che ne fanno due delle track techno che più abbiamo apprezzato in questo primo 2016 [per alcune delle altre, si veda il nostro primo episodio di Recommended].
L’ultima menzione è riservata a Frequency Hz, un gruppo di ragazzi (di cui Emanuele fa parte) che si occupano di creare connessioni tra diverse organizzazioni di eventi tra Roma e Napoli, azione fondamentale per permettere a nuovi talenti di creare link e dimostrare il proprio valore. The #2 episode for our Guest Mixes is by Emanuele Onorato, a 1995-born producer from Cassino, Frosinone (IT), who released two records in 2016, one on Concrete Records and the other on Blackwater Label. Also, in late 2015 his track Oscuro appeared on I Want to Believe EP released on Affekt as the result of the victory of a contest arranged by Parkett.

Oscuro is the track Emanuele Onorato made his official debut with, appearing on I Want to Believe EP by Affekt Recordings together with three other pieces (that won the contest too) produced by Parkett Giacomo Ciaccia, Codeless and Mirko Grasso. Despite less could be told about the attitude, style and talent of a musician listening to one single track, is worth noting a quite brave choice done by Emanuele in presenting himself with a 9-minutes-long, dark-techno one – managing to do that in a considerably nice way.
After a little while – i.e. the 27th of December, 2015 – an entire digital-released album saw the light, out on the Rome-based label called Concrete Records. Titled Connessione, the record focuses on soft dynamics and obscure-quiet tones, developing further Oscuro’s style expecially on Connessione A1, the first track. The second one, for example, stands as a tiny precious booming sketch of tensed music, characterized by an interestingly-lead rhythmic break in the middle, and a constant chirping on the background. Even if we feel that a couple ideas could have been expanded more than they had been, the EP is of outstanding quality and perfectly fits in Concrete catalogue’s, and no experience gap is noticed with respect to the other releases.
Ashtray was published instead last March, the 28th, on Blackwater Label, a London-based yet an 100% Italian label. The record is composed by three Original mix tracks, that are Ashtray, Dust e Stub, together with a fourth one that is a Remix version of the eponymus track Ashtray done by Devianza (aka F.elipe, aka Pier di Sorte, the label’s boss, and also followed by a videoclip). [We seize the opportunity to warmly recommend Blackwater Label and his Kapvt Mvndi sublabel, managed by the already-mentioned Pier di Sorte, which has been seing the partecipation of many good artists such as Fabrizio Lapiana, Subion, Ossa di Mare, Luciano Lamanna and many others]. Ashtray EP puts a lot more at stake with respect to Connessione: for example, the two central pieces Dust and Stub are developed around heavy rhythmic patterns, and characterized respectively by an explosive theme and an acid / catching loop, obsessively repeated. The tracks could appear without any doubt amoung our favourite-2016-techno-tunes so far [to see other elements of our list, check here]
We report also Frequency Hz‘s activity: they’re a bunch of guys (Emanuele is among them) handling relations between many event planners spanning from Rome to Naples, therefore helping new talents to emerge and create a web of links useful to get a chance to show their value. Support the crew!
Finally, stated the very good quality of the releases we’ve been mentioning and the many fresh aspects in the approach to techno – which allow us and the listener to foresee some talent indeed, considering they’re basically his first experiences in electronic music production – is clear we’re going to carefully follow Emanuele’s career in the immediate future, recommending you do the same and maybe get hold of these releases too.
